One Layer Chocolate Cake

Fastest cake ever. Everyone should have the most delectable chocolate cake recipe that you can still make at 10pm for midnight snacks.  And that it is a recipe from Florence Fabricant just makes it soooooo much better.

One Layer Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 C. All Purpose Flour
  • 1 C. Sugar
  • 3/4 C. Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1 t. Baking Powder
  • 1/4 t. Baking soda
  • 1/4 t. Salt
  • 3/4 C. Whole Milk
  • 1/4 C. Solid Shortening
  • 1/2 t. Pure Vanilla
  • 1 Lg. Egg
  • A bit of butter and flour for preparation of pan
  • Confectioners Sugar for sprinkling on the top (optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl
  3. Add the milk, shortening and vanilla, beat on low until thoroughly combined; then beat on medium for 2 more minutes
  4. Add the egg and beat 2 minutes
  5. Pour into prepared 9″ pan and bake approx. 25-30 minutes
  6. Cool on rack for 10 minutes
  7. Remove from pan; cool thoroughly; plate and decorate
