Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

An easy and special cake for a lazy Sunday.  Old-fashioned with bananas and walnuts, I could not ask for more today.

Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting


  • 3 Ripe Bananas (mashed)
  • 3/4 C. Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 C. Light Brown Sugar (lightly packed)
  • 1/2 C. Vegetable Oil
  • 2 Extra Lg. Eggs
  • 1/2 C. Sour Cream
  • 1 t. Vanilla Extract
  • Zest of 1 Orange
  • 2 C. All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 t. Baking Soda
  • 1/2 t. Kosher Salt
  • 1/2 C. Walnuts (chopped)
  • Cream Cheese Frosting (recipe below)


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees; grease and flour 9″ round cake pan
  2. Mix bananas, sugar and brown sugar in a bowl on low-speed until combined
  3. Add oil, eggs, sour cream, vanilla and zest; continue to mix until smooth
  4. Stir the flour, baking soda and salt in a separate bowl until combined
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix on low until well combined
  6. Add the chopped walnuts and mix thoroughly
  7. Pour batter into pan and bake for 45-50 minutes (until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean
  8. Cool for 15 minutes; turn out onto cooling rack and cool completely
  9. Frost with prepared Cream Cheese Frosting and sprinkle with the other finely chopped walnuts

Cream Cheese Frosting


  • 6 oz. Cream Cheese (room temperature)
  • 6 T. Unsalted Butter (room temperature)
  • 1 t. Vanilla Extract
  • 2 1/2 C. Confectioners’ Sugar (sifted)
  • 1/2 C. Walnuts (finely chopped for topping/optional)


  1. Combine cream cheese, butter and vanilla and mix on low-speed
  2. Add sugar and continue to mix until smooth; set aside until cake is ready to frost
