Fragole al Vino Bianco

October 25, 2010

There is not much to say about strawberries and white wine, maybe.  But I did drink the leftover syrup that soaked the berries.  Can I now shop at gas stations for “strawberry wine”?  Is there such a thing?  Those were my questions the first time I had this fabulous dessert at a  “Sports Club in Rome”.  The word “finale” means so much.  End a dinner with this unbelievable, fresh concoction and the crowd will think you are the best.  Pure simplicity turned elegant.

Fragole al Vino Bianco (Strawberries in White Wine)

  • 1 C. Dry White Wine
  • 2 T. Sugar (or to taste)
  • 2-4 Lemon Zest Strips
  • 2 Pints Strawberries (hulled and sliced)
  • Optional (cookies)

  1. Combine the wine, sugar and lemon zest in a large bowl
  2. Stir to dissolve the sugar
  3. Add the berries and toss well
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour (toss berries a few times)
  5. Serve in a shallow glass bowl or stemmed glasses
  6. Optional, serve with a few cookies

(Serves 4)

I just want to drink the juice. Then I would eat the drunken berries. This sounds really really good!

Oh Megan, you went to the right place. I did drink all the juice left in the bowl in the kitchen since it did not fit in the glasses. ??? I was amazed even after the dessert.
