Barbeque Shrimp Skewers

A well-loved quick shrimp recipe for keeping the guests busy while you finish getting the rest of the picnic organized.   And if you trust your guest they can even do it themselves (well, that is a stretch for some).  I actually never think of barbeque shrimp unless my mind is on picnic food and that is just wrong too.  They could be dressed up for a sit-down dinner too.  The friends and family love them and I do too.  If I could afford it I would love to eat shrimp most days of the week as there are so many ways to make them.  I have only had shrimp once that I did not enjoy and that was the live ones boys put down my bathing suit.

Barbeque Shrimp Skewers


  • 1 lb. Medium Shrimp
  • 1 C. Barbeque Sauce (see recipe below)
  • 2 T. Unsalted Butter
  • 2 T. Oil


  1. Make barbeque sauce
  2. Soak wooden skewers in oil (5 minutes)
  3. Peel and devein shrimp
  4. Thread shrimp onto the skewers
  5. Baste on both sides of shrimp with the barbeque sauce
  6. Heat oil and butter in a grill pan to medium high
  7. Grill shrimp on both sides (about 4 minutes)

Ingredients (Barbeque Sauce)

  • 1 C. Ketchup
  • 1/2 C. Water
  • 3 T. Honey
  • 2 T. Sugar
  • 1 Clove Garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 T. Onion Powder
  • 1/2 T. Dry Mustard
  • 1 T. Lemon Juice
  • 2 t. Worcestershire Sauce

Preparation (Barbeque Sauce)

  1. Put all ingredients in a saucepan
  2. Bring to a boil and then put on simmer
  3. Let simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally for about an hour


(Serves 8, 5 Shrimp per person)
