Spicy Rib Eye Steak with Horseradish Sauce

July 20, 2010

This marinade is “spicy” in a very flavorful way, not as in “too hot” .    I love horseradish with a delicious prime rib but I do not make prime rib often enough to get my quota of that taste.   This simple but hearty meal will certainly satisfy your desire for a great steak dinner.

Spicy Rib Eye Steak with Horseradish Sauce

  • 4 Rib Eye Steaks (1-1 1/2 inch thick)
  • 2 t. Black Peppercorns (crushed)
  • 1/4 t. Red Pepper Flakes
  • 2 Garlic Cloves (minced)
  • 1 T. Shallot (minced)
  • 1/2 T. Fresh Rosemary (chopped)
  • 1 t. Fresh Oregano (chopped)
  • 1 T. Fresh Parsley (chopped)
  • 1/2 t. Salt
  • 2 T. Red Wine
  • 6 T. Olive Oil

  1. Combine peppercorns, red pepper flakes, garlic, shallots, rosemary, parsley, salt, red wine and oil in a large enough container to hold the steaks as well and mix well (may use plastic zip-loc bag)
  2. Add the steaks to the container and turn to coat both sides
  3. Seal the container and chill for at least 4 hours
  4. Remove from refrigerator  when ready to prepare (at least 15 minutes)
  5. Grill steaks for about 5 minutes on each side to sear (for medium-rare)
  6. Remove steaks from grill and let rest 5 minutes before serving on a warmed plate
  7. Serve Horseradish Sauce on the side of each plate (or serve in a medium bowl to pass at the table)
  8. Garnish with additional rosemary and/or  parsley

 Horseradish Sauce

  • 1/2 C. Creme Fraiche
  • 1-2 t. Prepared Horseradish (adjust amount of Horseradish for your taste)
  • 1 t. Chives (chopped)

  1. Mix ingredients together in a bowl and refrigerate until ready to serve
  2. Add additional chives on sauce for garnish

(Serves 4)
