Strawberry Gelato

Why did I ever wait so long to buy an ice cream maker?  This is by far the best ever and I thank Giuliano Hazan (www.giulianohazan.com) for this gelato recipe perfection.  If you have never tried gelato before please be sure to run out, buy the ingredients and make it as soon as possible.  After spending years in Italy enjoying their gelatos I was never that impressed with any that I bought in food markets and now I am happy to be able to make my own.  Thank you Signori Giuliano!

 Strawberry Gelato

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Fresh Strawberries (reserve 1/4 lb. for garnish)
  • 3/4 C. Sugar (granulated)
  • 3/4 C. Water
  • 2 T. Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1/3 C. Heavy Cream

 Preparation

  1. Rinse berries and remove stems and leaves
  2. Add the berries and sugar to a food processor and process until liquified; add water and mix well
  3. Whip the cream with a whisk; until it begins to thicken
  4. Add the cream to the strawberry mixture and mix thoroughly
  5. Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and follow directions of the manufacturer
  6. Serve immediately or put in a freezer container for later use
  7. If using later; remove from freezer about 10 minutes before serving
  8. (For a special mold) Use if you would like to make slices of the gelato

 (Yield/approx. 1 Quart)
